How to infuse oil and butter

Prepare your decarboxylated cannabis: Make sure you've already decarboxylated your cannabis as described earlier.

Choose your oil or butter and canning jars: Select the oil or butter you want to infuse and clean, dry canning jars with lids to hold the infusion. Common choices include coconut oil, olive oil, or unsalted butter.

Fill a saucepan with water: Place a saucepan on the stove and fill it with enough water to cover the bottom third of the canning jars when they're placed inside. Bring the water to a gentle simmer over low to medium heat.

Combine cannabis and oil in the jars: Divide your decarboxylated cannabis evenly among the canning jars. Then, pour your chosen oil or melted butter into each jar, covering the cannabis completely.

Seal the jars: Secure the lids tightly on the canning jars.

Infuse in the water bath: Carefully place the sealed jars into the saucepan of simmering water. Make sure the water level is below the lids of the jars. Let the jars simmer in the water bath for 2-3 hours, maintaining the water temperature to keep it gently simmering.

Strain the mixture: After the infusion time is up, remove the jars from the water bath using tongs or a jar lifter (be careful, they'll be hot!). Allow them to cool slightly before straining the infused oil or butter through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean container.

Cool and store: Let the infused oil or butter cool completely before storing it in the refrigerator. Use it in your favorite recipes as needed, enjoying the benefits of your cannabis infusion!

By using canning jars and a water bath, you can safely and effectively infuse your oil or butter with cannabis, resulting in delicious and potent creations for your culinary adventures.
